The best charcoal grill at any price.

For most people, a grill is nothing special. A box with fire in it. If all you want to do is burn some burgers, or heat up brats, then simple and cheap is all you need. Drag out "old rusty" and look the other way.

But grilling can be more than "burn-some-meat-before-you-start-drinking". We see grilling as one of the necessary skills for the accomplished chef. It is a highly regarded specialty, and in some parts of the world, a distinguished career that takes years to master. Done with style and skill, grilling is an art that deserves the finest tools.

With the right equipment, you can do so much more than burgers and brats. We use our grill to to enhance fine foods, served with fine beverages, and fine entertaining. Charcoal flavor can be a key ingredient in many excellent foods. We're in love with the smoky tastes, the fire, and the fun.

You don't need much design work to hang some meat 5 inches over the coals.

Face it, most of the grills you see in home stores and discount houses are not good designs. They're made by huge companies who are not interested in grilling, they're interested in making money. Marketing does a study, accounting chimes in, and the message comes down: cut the cost; cut the price. It's why most charcoal grills are crude, lightweight junk, stamped out by the thousands in China. Most people think these things are just fine ... there were seven million sold last year.

We decided to aim a little higher....

The best charcoal grill you can buy at any price! This is our lofty goal: the perfect grill ... that it would be a charcoal grill, is implicit. Now you can have a tool that takes your skills, and the grilling arts, to a new level.

It takes a lot of time and money to make something this good. We don't see that old grill rusting away out there as a necessary evil. We see it as a design challenge.

Design engineering is tough, slow work. The talent is expensive. And as you fight your way through a complex project like this, it's difficult to stay the course. You have to think everything all the way through and refuse to take the easy way out.

We spent the time and did our best to solve every problem with clever elegance because, in the end, quality does shine through. And a great product gives you quiet pleasure every time you use it. A bad product may cost less, but it never satisfies.

Our real goal is to give you something that you can be proud to own. Proud of the quality, the design, and the way it sets your talents free. The most common reaction to the design is one word: "AWESOME!"

But design is only half the story.

We use the best materials and they command the highest prices: marine grade hardware, 304 stainless, heavy gauge steel, and high temperature coatings. Cheap materials are easier to find and less expensive. But cheap materials cost you more in the long run.

And in spite of the name, German Grills are made here in the US where quality American workmanship commands a well-deserved premium (and also creates jobs).

Stainless hardware

Design does matter. In our opinion, most charcoal grills are ugly. You have a beautiful deck, nice outdoor furniture, and lush landscaping. Why would you add something that looks like a giant avocado? Or a bomb with spindly little legs? Do you hide the charcoal grill when you're not using it?

We worked long and hard to design a grill that you don't have to hide.

Design is a personal thing, but we feel that our work will stand next to any grill on the market in quality and appearance. When you take it out of the box, your jaw will drop.

She's a beauty!

Piece by Piece.

The grill should never wear out, warp or rust away. Any surfaces that touch the hot coals are 1/8 inch thick and hand welded to avoid warping. Materials that touch food are stainless steel, thick, smooth and easy to keep clean. Mechanical assemblies are made of heavy steel, coated to stand up to outdoor weather conditions. Tolerances are engineered to account for large changes in temperature. The hardware is all stainless steel.

The Grate. The cooking grate is massive and solid stainless steel. You have never seen a grate like this on a charcoal grill. It is "engineered" as part of the cooking and cleanup system. Once you use it, you will understand. It's made of thick, hand-welded, 304 stainless steel. The grate flips up for access to the inside of the grill and to allow you to clean the underside where the gunk builds up. It is removable, and fits in a self-cleaning oven, but is easy to clean without removing it from the grill ... and without getting yourself dirty.

The Firebox is the heart of the grill. It's made of heavy gauge high temperature coated steel ... rigid, solid and heavy. All of the hardware mounts to the firebox. It weighs almost fifty pounds ... it's built to last.

The Stands. The basic stands are practical and stable, hand-welded and heavy. Both have large prep surfaces, storage for your tools, and quality wheels. As with the rest of the grill, every feature is there for a practical purpose. The cabinet is basically the same design as the stand with a large drawer underneath. We also offer a permanent pedestal mount and a built-in countertop stand. They're all made of heavy gauge steel and have two layer powder coating.

This grill is worth the price! You will be pleased with the look and feel. It's more than just a box with fire in it ... it's a clever grilling system with excellence in design, top-shelf quality and no compromise.

When you get good at something, you start looking around for better equipment. This thing is built to commercial quality standards! We believe that you need high-grade equipment to produce high grade results. Would you buy a $5,000 camera? A $2,000 guitar? Some would think you're crazy to spend that much. But even though you're not a professional photographer or musician, you know it's worth it to have great tools. (And that once you've used professional grade tools, you can never go back. Fine tools are simply a delight to use!)

Treat yourself to a charcoal grill with the same sophistication as the other tools in your life. You don't allow poor quality in your shop, your kitchen or your profession. Why use junk when you cook outside?

In typical German manner, every material, action, and mechanism is engineered to do exactly what it needs to do ... no more ... no less. There's nothing in the design purely for show (except maybe that nickle-plated bronze, fired enamel badge....) and, of course, there are no cost-cutting shortcuts either.

This grill is built to provide many years of fun. We hope that you will teach the next generation how to cook using your German Grill.
